MARCH

New York School of Interior Design
Special Lecture and Discussion at the D&D Building

10:00 - 11:30 am
Designers Lounge, 14th Floor

Ethel Rompilla
The Poetry of Color: How the Palette of Fine Art Can Inspire the Interior Designer

Ethel Rompilla, award-winning professor of color theory at New York School of Interior Design, and author of Color for Interior Design, will host a lecture and discussion on the way fine art, both traditional and contemporary, can inspire the designer to take a more poetic, creative approach in selecting colors for interiors. This idea has been around since the late 19th century, when the British architect, Sir John Soane, created what he called "the poetry of architecture" by combining classical details with light in a picturesque way. Although there are obvious differences between fine art and interiors, they share many common elements: color, pattern, texture, composition and light. And both have similar goals: to please or engage the eye and to spark the imagination of the viewer or occupant. This beautifully illustrated lecture will be followed by an opportunity for discussion and further exploration of the dynamic uses of color.

Tickets: $25 (Space is limited to 20)

The Decorators Club Salutes the D&D Building on its 40th Anniversary

The D&D Building has touched the lives and careers of virtually all of the more than 100 members of The Decorators Club. It is considered an essential resource for everyone in the interior design profession. On September 20th The Decorators Club will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the D&D Building with a dinner that will benefit its Education Fund.

The Decorators Club’s strong commitment to education goes back to 1926 when an apprenticeship committee was formed to help interior design students. More than 40 years ago, the student scholarship awards were established. Today, the club sponsors an annual portfolio competition for students from the six metropolitan New York area colleges with BFA level interior design programs: Fashion Institute of Technology/SUNY; New York Institute of Technology; New York School of Interior Design; Parsons School of Design; Pratt Institute; and the School of Visual Arts. In the last decade, The Decorators Club has awarded almost $100,000 in scholarships to 67 students.

integration company, which has been recognized by the media for its creativity, efficiency and service.
