Forty Years of Design
A panel discussion moderated by Ann Omvig Maine, Editor in Chief of Traditional Home magazine

This year the D&D Building is celebrating a milestone. It is not only celebrating its fortieth anniversary, but forty years of great passion for design. In commemoration of this occasion, Traditional Home magazine is pleased to join the D&D Building in hosting opening day of Fall Market-“40 Years of Design Excellence”.

Join us for a morning panel discussion on the evolution of design over the past four decades-from the most influential tastemakers to the design innovations that we can’t now imagine living without. Ann Omvig Maine, editor in chief, will lead a panel of four celebrated designers as they discuss their mentors, their inspirations and the best breakthroughs over the past forty years of design.

Sheila Bridges has an abundance of inspirations, but one of her primary motivations is to introduce a new generation of clients to the value of good design and the importance of interior environments that reflect one's own personal style. Her work is classic, simple, and elegant-a combination that has made her one of the country’s most sought-after young interior designers.

Mario Buatta is a wealth of knowledge on the past four decades of design. He opened his decorating firm in 1963 after studying at Parson’s School of Design and working in association with several design firms, including Elisabeth Draper, Inc. and B. Altman & Co. The native New Yorker is known for his masterful ability to blend antiques with contemporary, luxury with practicality, and pattern with pattern.

Jamie Drake, like many great designers, seems to have been to the manner born. After beginning his career with an internship in the office of Angelo Donghia, Drake launched his namesake firm immediately after graduation from Parson's. Since then he has completed a vast array of projects, including the recent renovation and restoration of Gracie Mansion. To the manor born, indeed.

Charlotte Moss, a design inspiration in her own right, has been active in the industry for over twenty years, and has residential installations throughout the U.S. and Caribbean. Charlotte’s diverse influences include architects and craftsmen of the 18th Century and fashion designers from Claire McCardell to Balenciaga-plus “women with a sense of humor and great personal style.”

Wednesday, October 19

New York: Under the Influence
A roundtable discussion moderated by Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design magazine “Only in New York, kids. Only in New York.” No, it's not Cindy Adams, it’s Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design magazine. As design makes headlines and takes center stage, join Cindy as she explores the greatest city on earth, from the upscale Upper West Side to the gritty Bowery. Cindy will host an unforgettable roundtable of today's top talent, from urban legends to urban upstarts. They are fresh off the city's most-loved projects and ready to talk entirely and candidly about New York design: Where we live, where we work, where we play.

Monday, October 17th

Fall Market pre-party
Cocktails at Ralph Lauren will celebrate the publication of THE NEW GARDEN PARADISE: Great Private Gardens of the World by Dominique Browning and the editors of House & Garden. Ms. Browning, editor of House & Garden, will be signing copies of the book that celebrates, in words and breathtaking images, thirty-five landscapes created for private clients by today’s preeminent designers. International in scope and generous in its production, this book is the last word on the state of design in the
garden world. The last twenty years have seen a lucky confluence of money and talent lavished on gardening, and the results are surprising, enchanting, sometimes even controversial. These hidden masterworks of modern gardening are unlocked for us by the authority, experience, and resources of House & Garden. Every page is an
invitation to explore landscapes that have never before been seen by the public - and may never be seen again. Invitation only.
