Traditional Home’s “International Inspiration”

Where in the world can you find today’s most acclaimed designers? Everywhere. The new millennium’s global perspective demands that they travel internationally for fresh ideas. Join Traditional Home magazine as a panel of acclaimed designers discuss how their design visions have been kindled by foreign locales, cultures, textiles, and antiquities from every corner of the planet.

Martin Waller, co-founder and managing director of Andrew Martin, is an inveterate world traveler. Prime example – his recent trek to Nagaland established him as the first western traveler there in more than fifteen years. His philosophy is straightforward – to provide simple yet innovative designs with global inspiration, using distinctive colors and textures to create his stylish, contemporary pieces.

Wherever Allegra Hicks goes, she finds inspiration – “whether in the gaudy gilding of a baroque cathedral in Taxco, Mexico, or in the weatherbeaten elegance of a turquoise shack in the Bahamas”. It is this keen eye for translating the telling detail that has made her succeed as principal of her namesake company, Allegra Hicks, where she oversees the creation of fashions, textiles, accessories, and products for the home.

Nicky Haslam, principal in NH Design, has firsthand experience in running simultaneous projects across the globe. Operating worldwide, NH Design has recently completed projects in New York, New Orleans, Barbados – along with several English country houses. He is also currently working on sites in the South of France, Majorca, Cheshire, and London, including a new-build mansion in the Russian Art Noveau style for Georgian clients in Hampstead.
