Decoration and Design Building Announces 17th Floor Renovation Complete with
New York's Premier Design Talent Jamie Drake
New York, NY, February 3, 2004 As previously announced, the Decoration and Design Building (D&D Building) is pleased to unveil the renovation of its 17th floor hallway, designed by Jamie Drake. A reception was held on February 3rd from 5-7pm.
D&D Building President Charles S. Cohen said, The purpose of this building-wide project is to create a seamless design environment from the elevators to the showrooms. Each floor will have its own unique design created by a world-class designer.
Jamie Drake is one of the star designers who has committed to this project. Says Drake, "the design I created for the 17th floor represents my signature style: the embodiment of new American glamour... urbane, bold, sophisticated and confident". Inspired by some of the fabulous products available at the D&D Buildinggenerously provided by Farrow and Ball, J. Pocker & Son, Scuffmaster Architectural Finishes, shown at Wolf-Gordon, Innovations in Wallcoverings, Alpha Workshops (available through Pollack), and Sirmos-- Mr. Drake created a fresh modern feeling for the public space. The color palette is primarily kiwi green with strong chartreuse accents, bittersweet chocolate brown and cool milky white.
Considered a trendsetter in the field, Jamie Drake is one of todays most celebrated interior designers. In 2003, Drake was named the International Designer of the Year in the prestigious Andrew Martin Annual Competition and was inducted into the Interior Design Hall of Fame held annually at the Waldorf Astoria by Interior Design Magazine. He is legendary for creating uncommonly glamorous high-end residences, borrowing elements form fashion, cinema, live theater and music. Among his many clients are Madonna, Phyllis and Victor Grann as well as Michael Bloomberg, with whom he has worked over the past seventeen years--most recently on the renovation of Gracie Mansion.
Home to over 130 of the design industry's premier showrooms for fabrics, furniture, antiques and art, the D&D Building is an invaluable resource to the trade with over 20,000 designers that pass through the building each month. The D&D Building is an institution, offering designers and architects all the necessary resources with which to design and decorate homes and commercial installations of distinctive quality. In addition, the D&D Building offers a number of other services including their exclusive monthly design lectures, designer referral services and famed chef and restaurateur Charlie Palmer's ASTRA Café.
